July 17 (UPI) — Tropical Storm Don formed Monday afternoon, prompting storm advisories for portions of the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center said.
The fourth named Atlantic storm of the hurricane season is located about 485 miles east-southeast of Barbados and 595 miles east of Trinidad as of the NHC’s 5 p.m. EDT advisory.
The storm packs 40 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 65 mph. Don is moving west at about 17 mph.
The government of Trinidad and Tobago issued a tropical storm warning for Grenada, and Barbados, St. Vincent, the Grenadines and St. Lucia are under tropical storm watches.
Don’s eye is expected to move through the Windward Islands late Tuesday with little change in strength over the next 48 hours. It could drop between 2 inches and 4 inches of rain on the islands.
The storm will likely dissipate within three days, the NHC said.
