July 13 (UPI) — A Russian military court on Thursday found five Chechens guilty in the assassination two years ago of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov.
The men — Zaur Dadayev, Shadid Gubashev, Temirlan Eskerkhanov, Khamzat Bakhayev and Anzor Gubashev — were found guilty by a Russian jury. Judge Yuri Zhitnikov sentenced the defendants to prison and ordered them to pay a fine.
Dadayev, who was accused of shooting Nemtsov, received 20 years. The others were tried as conspirators.
Nemtsov, who was an ardent opponent of President Vladimir Putin, was shot several times in the back in February 2015. Officials said the men responsible were offered nearly $250,000 to commit the killing.
Nemtsov’s family has said they still want to find those responsible for ordering the assassination.
