Two die, power to jail knocked out in Louisiana plane crash

May 1 (UPI) — Two people died in the crash of a small plane in Collinston, La., which disrupted electrical power to a detention center, police said.

The plane struck electric wires as it flew Sunday afternoon, then crashed in an adjacent field. Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs said both people aboard the plane were declared dead at the scene when sheriffs arrived.

The identities of the two people aboard the plane, and the model of the plane, were not released.

By Sunday night, crews from local power companies were still working to establish electricity in the Morehouse Parish Detention Center.

Sheriffs secured the scene until Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board representatives arrive for an investigation, the Monroe News-Star reported.
