San Francisco hit with massive power outage

A widespread power outage in a large swath of San Francisco affected several neighborhoods, prompting officials to close a train station while crews worked to restore electricity. 

Crews from Pacific Gas Electric were working to restore power after neighborhoods including the Financial District and the Presidio lost electricity. 

The Montgomery BART station closed at 9:15 a.m. when the power went out. According to BART, the station was evacuated trains did not stop at the station during the incident.

San Francisco police said approximately 13,000 people were without power. PGE said the company hopes to have power restored around noon. 

Officials with the Municipal Transportation Agency said the outage was also affecting cable cars and shuttles were put in place to provide service.
