What a coincidence!
Ivanka Trump’s fashion line has hit record highs in sales this year, despite calls to boycott the brand after her dad Donald became President in January.
In addition, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC has won provisional approval from the Chinese government for four new trademarks, and some people are crying foul. The approval was conveniently granted the same day the POTUS’ daughter dined with President Xi Jinping of China at Mar-a-Lago. Criminal conflict of interest law prohibits government officials, which she now is thanks to her expanding role in the White House, from financially profiting over government matters.
“Ivanka has so many China ties and conflicts, yet she and Jared appear deeply involved in China contacts and policy. I would never have allowed it,” Norman Eisen, who served as chief White House ethics lawyer under Barack Obama, told Daily Mail. “For their own sake, and the country’s, Ivanka and Jared should consider stepping away from China matters.”
After the Prez came to his little girl’s defense, press secretary Sean Spicer was forced to defend his decision to do so during a press conference.
“I think there’s clearly a targeting of her brand, and it’s her name still out there. So while she’s not directly running the company, it’s still her name on it. And there’s clearly efforts that – to undermine that name based on her father’s positions on particular policies, that he’s taken. This is a direct attack on his policies and her name. And so that – there’s clearly an attempt for him to stand up for her, because she is being maligned, because they have a problem with his policies,” he told reporters.
Business is tricky when you mix it with politics, that’s for sure!
