BEERWAH , Australia, Oct. 13 (UPI) — A pair of eastern brown snakes decided to spend mating season in an Australian family’s backyard.
Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 responded to a call of a suspected eastern brown snake in Beerwah, where the snake catcher discovered the one snake was actually a mating pair.
“This also took me by surprise as I didn’t realize until after a few minutes of poking around,” said the snake catcher, named Lewis.
After sizing up the situation, he continued to try to separate and capture the venomous snakes but one snake had other plans.
“The snakes continued to mate, even with all the commotion, but when they separated, one of them unfortunately managed to give me the slip,” he said.
Lewis managed to capture the remaining snake and ultimately released it, while noting snakes are more likely to be active as the local temperatures begin to rise.
