AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 6 (UPI) — A house that spent nearly a week stuck in the middle of an Austin, Texas, road was finally back in transit Thursday morning.
The Austin Transportation Department said a company called Austin Home Movers attempted to transport the duplex house from a lot on East Live Oak Street to another location on the same road Friday, but the structure proved too wide and ended up damaging cable lines, a telephone pole, and several trees and other plants.
The company was found not to have the proper permit to move the house through Austin streets, so the structure was left in the road while the movers sought permission from officials.
The permit was granted, but the movers missed their overnight Wednesday deadline and had to wait until early Thursday morning to begin the house’s journey to its new intended home, the nearby city of Lockhart.
The house moving stopped temporarily about 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the city of Buda to wait for the morning rush traffic to dissipate.
