WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 (UPI) — A South by Southwest-inspired celebration of ideas and innovation — aptly called South by South Lawn — took place Monday at the White House.
“Earlier this year, President Obama traveled to South by Southwest for a conversation on civic engagement. In Austin, he called on creative thinkers and entrepreneurs from across the country to help tackle our toughest challenges,” the White House’s website noted. “On Monday, Oct. 3, we’re celebrating that spirit of innovation at South by South Lawn, a White House festival of ideas, art and action.”
The day included panel discussions, musical performances and a student film festival.
The evening’s festivities are expected to include a concert by The Lumineers, a discussion with Leonardo DiCaprio, President Obama and Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, and the domestic premiere of the climate-themed documentary Before the Flood.
