LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20 (UPI) — Oscar-winning filmmaker Curtis Hanson died Tuesday at his home in the Hollywood Hills. He was 71.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed his death with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Nevada native’s films included Losin’ It, The Bedroom Window, Bad Influence, The River Wild, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys, 8 Mile, In Her Shoes and Lucky You.
His final movie was 2012’s Chasing Mavericks, which was completed by Michael Apted after Hanson left the project due to illness.
Variety said the writer and director had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in recent years.
He is survived by a 12-year-old son and his partner, Rebecca Yeldham, a producer.
