BALI, Indonesia, Sept. 15 (UPI) — A German woman has been killed and 19 others injured in a tourist boat explosion in Bali Thursday morning, officials said.
The boat carried 35 all foreign passengers and four crew members. The explosion is believed to be an accident and not believed to be a bomb, Bali police said.
The explosion occurred about 9:30 a.m. Thursday just 600 feet from Padang Bai Harbour in Bali and is the latest in Indonesia’s long history of ferry accidents.
The boat is an Australian built fast ferry called the Gili Cat that shuttles passengers between the islands of Bali and Lombok.
Bali Police said the captain discovered smoke coming from the engine moments before the fuel tank blew up.
Passengers included two Dutch, two Irish, two Germans, two Spanish, along with four Portuguese, four French, four Austrians, six Italians and nine British occupants.
