Cubs’ Kyle Hendricks has no-hitter through six innings vs. Cardinals

Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks hadn’t allowed a hit through eight innings pitched against the Cardinals, but had his no-hit bid broken up by a Jeremy Hazelbaker homer in the ninth.

The two baserunners for St. Louis before the hit came in the second and seventh innings, on walks. Through eight, they struck out seven times against Hendricks, who threw 93 pitches.

The 26-year-old has righthander has been stellar for the Cubs all season, going 14–7 with a league-leading 2.07 ERA in 26 starts.

Hendricks was aiming for the second no-hitter of the season. Two of the last three no-hitters have been thrown by Cubs—Jake Arrieta had them both on Aug. 30, 2015 and April 21 of this year.
