TONGI, Bangladesh, Sept. 10 (UPI) — At least 20 people died in a factory fire after a boiler exploded in a four-story building in Bangladesh on Saturday.
According to CNN, local police chief Harunur Rashid said the explosion caused a fire while employees were inside the building in Tongi near the capital city of Dhaka.
The death toll is expected to rise as hundreds of firefighters attempt to extinguish the fire and 50 people were hospitalized with injuries.
The BBC reported about 100 people including machine operators and guards were in the building at the time of the fire.
“We have removed eight bodies to the hospital and are trying to retrieve a further two. Once the fire is out we will be able to enter the damaged structure to see if there are more bodies,” local fire and civil defense chief Anis Ahamed said.
