Plane crash kills Des Moines, Iowa, businessman

DES MOINES, Iowa, Sept. 9 (UPI) — The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa said businessman Scott Wolfswinkel died after the plane he was piloting crashed.

Wolfswinkel was the founder and owner of Wolf Construction, a West Des Moines roofing and commercial construction company. He was piloting his private Piper PA-46 plane on his way home from a business trip before the Wednesday crash.

“Scott was a visionary and an incredibly hard worker that loved his family and employees well,” Wolf Construction General Manager Brandon Hoch said in a press release.

The Lucas County Sheriff’s was contacted by air traffic control in Des Moines after radar contact was lost with the plane, which was returning to Iowa from Kansas City.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board launched an investigation into the crash. The FAA said the plane crashed in a rural area of northeastern Lucas County.
