AJAX, Ontario, Sept. 1 (UPI) — A venomous snake which had been spotted on the loose for several days in Canada was captured on Wednesday.
The town of Ajax announced that the large Copperhead snake was captured in the Greenwood Conservation Area where it had been spotted earlier in the week.
“The snake is now being transported to the Indian River Reptile Zoo in Peterborough,” Ajax Manager By-Law Services Derek Hannan said. “The Town extends their thanks and appreciation to the Indian River Reptile Zoo for acting quickly to recover the snake and the public for their support.”
The snake was initially spotted on Aug. 28 when the town determined it had likely been illegally released.
A search began on Wednesday afternoon as visitors to the conservation area were warned to remain alert and stay away from the snake, until it was ultimately recovered.
