Six injured, including child, in Switzerland train attack

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland, Aug. 13 (UPI) — A 27-year-old Swiss man set fire to a train and attacked passengers with a knife in northeastern Switzerland on Saturday, injuring six, including a six-year-old child, police said.

The motive for the attack is unclear and has left several of the injured in serious condition, suffering from stab wounds and burns.

The suspect reportedly poured an unknown flammable liquid on a female passenger and ignited it before stabbing the other passengers.

The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. local time while the train was in motion, traveling between the towns of Buchs and Sennwald.

Police do not believe that the attack was terror related.

In addition to the six-year old, three women aged 17, 34, and 43, and two men aged 17 and 50 were among the injured.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the attack.
