LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) — Bradley Cooper told The Late Late Show host James Corden that he was “not expecting” the backlash from fans after he was spotted in the crowd of the Democratic National Convention last week.
Fans of Cooper’s portrayal of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in the movie American Sniper were up in arms after the actor was spotted in the crowd at the DNC on the night of President Obama‘s speech.
Cooper explained that he wanted to take his mother to the convention so she could see Obama speak.
“It was just unbelievable,” Cooper said. “It was probably one of the last times we’re gonna hear him speak. I think he was an incredible president.”
Director Todd Phillips, Corden’s other guest, said fans’ anger at Cooper would be like “the mob being mad at [Robert] De Niro for being in The Intern.”
