At least 18 dead in Libya suicide bombing, reports say

BENGHAZI, Libya, Aug. 2 (UPI) — At least 18 people were killed Tuesday in a suicide car bombing in the Libyan city of Benghazi, news reports said.

The car bomb exploded in Guwarsha, in the western part of the city, an area that has seen intense fighting between Libyan rebel troops and Islamic militants.

Soldiers at the 146th Brigade headquarters were reportedly the target.

The Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries has claimed responsibility for the bombing, according to news reports.

The attack comes the day afterr Libya’s army had regained control of Guwarsha Gate from the Islamic State, making for a very public defeat.
