Seahawks GM: no out clause to leave for GB

RENTON, Wash. – Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said Thursday that his new contract does not contain an out clause that would allow him to leave to join the Green Bay Packers.

“No,” Schneider said. “There’s been lots of whispers about a lot of things and it’s a small league, and I’m from a small hometown.”

Schneider recently agreed to a five-year extension that will keep him in Seattle through 2021.

Prior to joining the Seahawks in 2010, Schneider spent eight seasons with the Packers, first as a personnel analyst to the general manager and then as the director of football operations. A Wisconsin native, Schneider first broke into the league as an intern with the Packers in 1992. He also served as a pro personnel assistant during his first stint there.

There had been speculation that the Packers might target Schneider down the road whenever Ted Thompson’s tenure ends. But with his new contract, Schneider won’t be going anywhere for at least six more seasons.
