SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton ranked second in the NFL behind Denver’s Peyton Manning in endorsement earnings last season at $11 million.

Rahim’s Seafood found a way to get him for free.

The owner of the Atlanta-based restaurant recently used a security cam photo of the NFL MVP enjoying his food to promote the restaurant on social media.

Thanks Cam Newton for shopping at Rahim’s Seafood!! Best Seafood in Atlanta, Since 1972. “It was a little different tactic,’’ said the restaurant owner, who offered only the last name Rahim in an interview with ESPN.com. “It’s just a way of showing my customers we have all kinds of people coming in, from famous people to athletes.’’

Referred to as Lady B on the restaurant Instagram page, Rahim said Newton wasn’t asked for permission to use the photograph.

“He took pictures with us,’’ Rahim said. “I’m sure he’s OK with it. It wasn’t like showing he’s a criminal. It showed he liked the food.’’

Rahim said Newton’s picture is on the restaurant’s “Wall of Fame’’ and he has been there several times to enjoy a menu featuring fried seafood, wings, pies and cakes.

Rahim said security cam photos of other celebrities, including the rapper Ludacris, have been used to promote the restaurant.

“Yeah, and it worked, too,’’ Rahim said.
