Coast Guard says 2 children among missing snorkelers off Florida Keys

KEY WEST, Fla., July 27 (UPI) — Two young boys are among four boaters reported missing off the Florida coast during a snorkeling trip, the U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday.

The boys and two adults left the Banana Bay resort for the trip off Key West on Tuesday, but a worried relative called authorities when they did not return at their scheduled time of 4 p.m. EDT, the Coast Guard said Wednesday.

Missing are David Thompson, 48, Adam Kelley, 28, Joshua Thompson, 15, and Evan Thompson, 11.

The boaters were aboard a 25-foot vessel and said they were planning to snorkel about six miles north of Key West.

At least three helicopter crews surveyed the entire coastline on Wednesday, officials said, but have so far found nothing.

The Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are participating in the search with An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, an HC-144 Ocean Sentry chopper and an MH-60 Jayhawk.
