A driver on New York’s Long Island was ticketed last Thursday after police said she made a dummy out of clothes and stuck it in the passenger’s seat so she could try using an expressway’s high-occupancy vehicle lane.
Naturally, Suffolk County Police snapped a photo. It showed the imaginary passenger made up of folded clothes and a hat stuffed between the seat and the headrest.
Police were amused by the scheme and posted, “We remind everyone, during the hours of 6-10 a.m. and 3-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, the HOV lane is reserved for buses, passenger vehicles with two or more HUMAN occupants, motorcycles and hybrid vehicles registered with the New York State Clean Pass program.
The driver was identified as a 61-year-old woman.
Police ticketed her violating HOV lane rules and for driving an unregistered vehicle, NBC New York reported.
