Poison drummer Rikki Rockett announces he is now cancer-free

SAN DIEGO, July 19 (UPI) — Poison drummer Rikki Rockett has taken to social media to announce that he is now cancer-free.

“Because of this man, I am cancer free!!!” the rockstar wrote on Instagram alongside a photo himself next to his physician Dr. Cohen ,M.D., a professor of medicine and associate director for Translational Science at Moores Cancer Center of UC San Diego Health.

Rockett was diagnosed with oral cancer in 2015 and underwent experimental immunotherapy therapy to treat it.

“We are delighted that Rikki responded so well to immunotherapy,” said Dr. Cohen while speaking with Billboard. “He had already been through a lot with chemotherapy and radiation treatment before he came to us, but his cancer recurred.”

Now cancer free, Rockett hopes to pay it forward and help other patients learn more about and prepare for immunotherapy.

“My hope going forward is that by talking to other cancer patients, I might be able to lessen their pain and suffering,” the 54-year-old said to Billboard. “I know from experience that chemotherapy and radiation are not fun. If I can help anyone else, it would help give reason to what I went through.”
