Sean Penn’s son, Hopper Penn, shares in a new interview that his dad almost named him after his favorite food.

Page Six reports that Hopper told Interview magazine in its Ones to Watch issue that he was almost named “Steak.” His dad is known to have an “obsession” with red meat.

“My dad wanted to name me Steak, the food, because he loves it so much,” Hopper,  22, said.

Why did it not come to be? Hopper reveals that his mother, Robin Wright, wasn’t thrilled with the idea. She told Sean to try again and that’s when he came up with Hopper because of his admiration for the actor, Dennis Hopper.

“It has to do with Dennis Hopper; my dad was friendly with him and idolized him,” Hopper Penn shared. “What they told me is that I hopped in her stomach, I didn’t kick, so they went with that.”

Hopper was encouraged by his father to star in May’s “The Last Face,” which Sean directed.

“I asked if I could PA for it,” Hopper recalled. “He said, ‘No, you’re going to act in it.’ I said no, because I’m very shy; I didn’t know how to act. He said, ‘Well, you’ll get paid.’ So I was like, ‘I’m onboard.’ After the first day, I fell in love with it.”

As noted in the report, Hopper Penn has two incredibly accomplished parents in the acting world. Sean won an Oscar in 2004 and 2009, and Robyn is a 2014 Golden Globe winner.

“My dad is a really good actor, and there are a lot of sh—ty actors, and I definitely think I’m one of them,” Hopper said about himself.
