According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Super Bowl MVP defensive end, Von Miller, intentionally cropped Denver Broncos Vice President and GM, John Elway, out of his Instagram picture which included Miller, Elway, Peyton Manning, DeMarcus Ware, and head coach Gary Kubiak during the team’s celebratory visit to the White House on Monday for winning Super Bowl 50. Specific reasons behind Miller’s intentional cutting out of Elway from the group photo have not yet been confirmed. However, after the way that contract talks between Miller and his team of representatives and the Denver Broncos have gone this offseason after Miller received the exclusive franchise tag, it’s not too hard to find a motive for Miller intentionally choosing to snub Elway out of the pic.

Miller turned down the Broncos’ six-year, $114.5 million offer earlier this week, despite telling reporters at the White House on Monday that there had been “real progress” made in his negotiations with the Broncos for a long-term deal. So far this offseason, Miller has yet to take part in Denver’s OTA’s or minicamp. The Broncos are scheduled to hold a ring ceremony at Sports Authority Field in Denver on Sunday, and it is uncertain as to whether or not Miller will be in attendance. The Broncos and Von Miller have until July 15th to reach a long-term deal, otherwise, Miller will have to play the 2016 season under the $14 million franchise tag tender before becoming an unrestricted free agent at the season’s conclusion.
The contract negotiations between the Broncos and Von Miller obviously seemed to have hit a major snag sometime between Monday’s visit at the White House and Saturday when Adam Schefter reported this little angry teenage girl move by Von Miller on social media. Up until Saturday, there were no signs that there was any tension between Miller and Broncos, but rather, both sides did not see eye to eye in terms of Miller’s worth (kind of difficult to not see that Miller deserves to be paid for what he is, which is the best DE in the NFL, but we’ll let that slide for now). Von Miller wants to get paid in the manner that he feels is right ($114.5 million seems pretty reasonable but oh well), and the Broncos want to pay him enough to make him happy while also keeping their salary cap intact. It’s easy to see the logic behind both sides here, but this little social media snubbing of John Elway by Von Miller goes to show just how strange this situation has gotten in such a short period of time.
In all, this little stunt by Von Miller on Instagram just made his entire contract negotiation with the Denver Broncos a lot more tense, and with the way things are going now, it would be the least bit surprising if this whole situation got even more weird. How? Who knows, but surely, it will provide us with some solid entertainment as we inch closer and closer to the start of training camp and the 2016 preseason.
