“Alice Through the Looking Glass” star Johnny Depp is breaking his silence after his ex-wife Amber Heard filed for divorce from the actor.
The actor’s rep released the following statement, saying, “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life.”
“Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly,” the statement ended.
The 30-year-old actress filed for divorce earlier this week citing “irreconcilable differences” after the couple was married for a little over a year said E! News.
A source close to the actress says Heard felt divorcing Depp was a necessary step after months of marital strife between the couple.
“Amber did what she had to do to take care of herself,” a source close to the actress remarked to People Magazine.
Reportedly prior to their marriage, the former model experienced a nervous response to marrying the actor.
In a story published by People Magazine, a source close to Heard was quoted as saying the actress was questioning her own motives for tying the knot with Depp within a year or so after becoming engaged.
“Before Amber met Johnny she was just a regular super cool hipster chick living with roommates who dated girls,” a source said to People Magazine.
“At their engagement party she kind of got cold feet… she was just like what is this scene and what am I doing here? She kind of couldn’t believe it was her life now.”
“There is no rush to marry at the moment,” a friend of the actor once stated to People Magazine in 2014 of the twosome.
Apparently there were signs of trouble even before the couple said “I do.”
“Johnny is crazy in love with Amber, but there is turmoil in the relationship,” the friend was quoted as saying.
“Alice Through the Looking Glass” is in theaters now.
