The Flick: Coming from “The Others” helmer Alejandro Amenábar there’s no doubt that “Regression” looks good.  Meaning the story of one detective delving into a case possibly involving devil worship is filled with stylistic images that are chilling.  Problem is the case and various twists and turns a blind man can see coming from a mile away and thus takes some of the fun out of whodunit.  Everyone plays their parts well enough – from Ethan Hawke as a no-nonsense cop to Emma Watson as a Crucible-like victim – but when the outcome is clear as day it’s hard to fully appreciate the cinematic darkness.

Best Feature: The four features here including ‘Ethan Hawke – Bruce’s Obsession,’ ‘Emma Watson – The Complexity of Angela,’ ‘The Cast of Regression,’ ‘The Vision of Regression’ all have some similar bits and frankly should be combined into one big one-stop shop Anchor Bay doc.

Best Hidden Gem: David Thewlis plays a nifty part as a quirky psychologist.

Worth the Moola: “The Others” had a twist that paid off big time – “Regression” not so much.
