Like many other retirees, Derek Jeter spends his retirement on Davis Island in Tampa, Florida. But, his neighbors would prefer it if he went back to New York and took his dog with him. Apparently, Jeter’s 30,875-square-foot mansion isn’t big enough for his menace of a dog.
Jeter’s dog, Kane, was a Christmas gift from fiancée Hannah Davis. And, he’s driving the multimillionaires on Davis Island crazy.
“[Jeter’s] got this Italian mastiff, and it’s vicious. When he first got it, it was a cute little puppy, but it became controversial on the block,” says one neighbor.

Hannah was right. Kane’s now huge. However, the neighbors would disagree with her about her gift giving abilities.

Jeter shared on his Players’ Tribune blog that he was “previously scared of dogs” and that “discipline is proving difficult” when it comes to Kane, who weighs in at 100 pounds.
When I first got Kane, I panicked a little. I’m lying. Actually, I panicked a lot. We had some epic standoffs at the beginning. He was energetic, thought he was king of the house, and I was a nervous owner. Kane would bite and nip and not pay attention to anything I said. My panicking was probably making him panic.
Jeter isn’t the only one scared of Kane.
“All of the dogs are afraid of him. He was outside barking all of the time. It wasn’t a normal bark. It was a bark you could hear blocks away,” says the neighbor.
Jeter says that Kane is his first pet. Even as a puppy, Kane doubted Jeter’s abilities to be a competent dog dad and that he was overall suspicious of the former New York Yankee. However, Jeter said he’s gotten pretty good at enforcing Kane’s boundaries. It looks like not everybody agrees on that.
