Amir Khan and Canelo Álvarez will soon face each other in the boxing ring. However, in real life, they are teaming up against soon-to-be Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Khan jokes that his fight against Álvarez might be his last in the United States because of Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims.
“You never know – this could be the last fight for me and Canelo here. That’s if Donald Trump becomes president.”

Kahn is from the United Kingdom but he’s Muslim. Álvarez is from Mexico. He also took offence to Trump’s comments on Mexican immigrants.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best,” Trump said while addressing immigration. “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
Álvarez, like many other people, found the statement ridiculous, offensive, and inaccurate:
“I don’t really like getting into political issues but it hurts, it offends, I would like [Trump] to understand us,” said Álvarez. “When I’m out running, I see a lot of my countrymen working hard, they have not come here to rob and steal. We want to show him that we Mexicans come here to succeed and be victorious.”
It was rumored that Trump would be courtside at the Saturday night fight. Oscar De La Hoya, who is promoting the fight says he will not be. However, he might be in attendance.
