Harper was already an Under Armour athlete but he extended the deal for 10 more years.
The exact amount Harper will receive has not been disclosed.
The brand will begin selling Harper’s first signature cleat, the Under Armour Harper One, over the summer.
Harper is quickly becoming the face of baseball. Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred called him a spokesman for this generation a couple weeks ago.
I think to the extent that you believe, and I actually do, that Bryce Harper is a spokesman for this generation, I suspect that you will see more exuberance from our players on the field,” Manfred told the Associated Press on Thursday.
Harper is able to reach a younger audience. The league loves that Harper has been able to capture the audience that has shifted away from baseball because football and basketball are flashier and more fun to watch.
“I think it’s a good thing,” Manfred said. “I think that to the extent that you’re trying to market to a younger audience, our younger players taking control of the definition of those unwritten rules is a lot better than some guy who’s 67 years [old] saying I did it that way and you ought do it the same way.”
