Michael Strahan Set To Make Over $20 Million On ‘Good Morning America’ Gig

Michael Strahan stands to double his salary on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The “Live! With Kelly and Michael” co-host announced plans to leave his current gig Tuesday morning and join the cast of “GMA.”

The news came as a shock and Kelly Ripa reportedly views it as a “betrayal” by Strahan since she wasn’t informed of the developments until the media learned of it.

According to People magazine, sources say Michael Strahan could make more than $20 million annually on “GMA.”

Strahan has been no stranger to the “GMA” set, spending two years as a part-time correspondent for the morning news program. He was offered a full-time position with the show and will begin this September.

So, why would ABC suddenly reveal Strahan was leaving “Live!”?

“They moved Michael because they are trying to close the gap [in ratings with the “Today” show] with a younger demographic for GMA,” said the source. “We’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars … this was bigger than just Michael wanting to do more, because of the money involved. This would have been a company decision.”

ABC’s big decision is believed to make a huge impact on Strahan’s life personally and professionally – as well as being a great business execution by the network.

During Thursday morning’s broadcast on “Live!,” Strahan thanked an absent Ripa – who left early for a planned vacation to decompress with husband, Mark Consuelos, and their children.

“I’m very thankful for her, to her, because I’ve learned so much from her,” Strahan said. “We’re on the same team, same family, same network,” he concluded.
