Macaulay Culkin recently opened up that his Hollywood acting career is history. The 35-year-old made news a few weeks ago when he was spotted walking around New York City with long very long hair and wearing a plaid shirt. In a new interview with Vulture, the “Home Alone” star said he’s through with acting.
“I’m a man in his mid-30s who’s essentially retired,” Culkin said. “I kind of go where the wind takes me a little bit.”
Macaulay is a bit of a recluse and likes to avoid the media glare.
“I’ll take walks at 2 or 4 in the morning because there’s nobody out on the streets and it’s easy for me to go unnoticed,” the star said.
Culkin enjoys venturing off to Paris whenever he gets the chance … revealing that he has a sense of comfort in France due to the anonymity it provides him.
The former actor explains that it doesn’t always work in his favor, however.
“A waitress just gave [a card with a tiny “Home Alone”–era photo of myself] to me and walked away — their WiFi code was ‘Macaulay Culkin,'” he said. “When she came back, I said, ‘I like your WiFi code.’ She goes, ‘Thank you,’ and I say, ‘C’est moi.’ She turned white and brought over the owner of the place, who said, ‘I knew you’d come here someday.’”
Culkin said he although the cafe recognized him, they “just didn’t care.” To him, it was a nice change from the barrage of fans drawing attention to him in the United States.
Macaulay works at his leisure. He most recently appeared on “The Jim Gaffigan Show” that returns to TV Land in June. He’s also signing on with independent projects, such as “Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling” and “Adam Green’s Aladdin” coming out this month. Additionally, Culkin dabbles in music. He started a band called The Pizza Underground and records songs about pizza. It’s a tribute to the band, The Velvet Underground.
