A deputy constable has been rushed to a hospital after a suspect approached him from behind and shot him six times early Thursday in Houston, authorities said.
Pamela Greenwood, a spokeswoman for the Harris County precinct seven constable’s office, said the incident happed between midnight and 12:15 a.m. She said the deputy constable is expected to survive.
The unidentified deputy was at a convenience store in midtown Houston and was learning into his patrol vehicle, talking to a reserve deputy trainee inside when an unknown suspect approached from behind and shot him, Greenwood said.
She said the officer was shot six times in the side and back. Doctors believe his injuries are not life-threatening.
The incident is under investigation. No further details were immediately available.
