New ‘Deadliest Catch’ Series To Premiere This Fall, Discovery Reveals

“Deadliest Catch” has been ratings gold for Discovery the last 12 seasons and now a new series is in order that the network hopes viewers will find just as appealing.

Deadline reports that Original Productions, the creators of “Deadliest Catch,” will bring a second fishing-themed reality series called “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove.” The series will revolve around the lives of fishing families in Newport, Ore. and the sacrifices they make. It mirrors the original “Deadliest Catch” in that it’s about crab fishing, but “Dungeon Cove” details the fishing of Dungeness crab versus Alaskan King crab.

As the synopsis describes, Newport “is one of the last remaining fishing towns along the edge of the notoriously violent ‘Graveyard of the Pacific’ that stretches from Oregon to British Columbia. Here, generations of Dungeness crab fishermen and their families sacrifice everything that they have, including life itself, to carve an existence from the sea.”

The lives of Alaskan fisherman on “Deadliest Catch” don’t generally show their families on the show and that might be one of the differing components of “Dungeon Cove.” At certain times, a family member will appear on “Deadliest Catch” when relevant, but they aren’t a focus of the show.

It’s not clear if the show will involve boat out at sea for long periods of time or if it’s something that takes place closer to home.

As the premiere date approaches, further information will surface on the new series and what the viewing audience can expect.

“Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove” is set to air Fall 2016. A premiere date hasn’t yet been released.
