Jake Anderson will captain the F/V Saga in season 12 of “Deadliest Catch.” As viewers know, Elliott Neese is the main captain of the Saga, but this season Anderson is taking over while Neese is absent from the show.
In an interview posted on Discovery, Jake Anderson said he changed everything he could on the Saga. He replaced the captain chair with one of his own and added more people to the crew.
“I made every change that I possibly could with the money that I had at the time,” Anderson says. “The first thing I changed is this frickin’ captain’s chair and the crew. There’s only one thing that’s the same in the last year and that is Nick Tokman is staying.”
Anderson added that he’s also changed the flooring, rebuilt engines, and threw out a lot of things that were left on the Saga he felt there was no use for – including large-screen television.
Jake threw a dig at Elliott in his final remarks about changes made to the captain’s boat.
“I don’t care if it was a heater, a 50-inch screen TV – and I’m serious, it came off of this boat. It went in the f***king garbage because I don’t want anything to do with the disease that was left for me after last season.”
Will the rookie captain do well with his own boat this season after working with Sig Hansen on the F/V Northwestern? Jake Anderson hopes to prove his abilities among the other fishermen in the fleet as well as himself.
Elliott Neese is taking this season off from the show while he focuses on himself after going through rehab last spring for his drug and alcohol problems. It’s unknown if he’ll be back for season 13.
“Deadliest Catch” season 12 premieres on the Discovery Channel Tuesday, March 29 at 9 p.m., ET/PT.
