Dasaolu blows 60m chance with false start

Briton James Dasaolu failed to reach the final of the men’s 60m event at the World Indoor Championships in Portland as he was disqualified for a false start in his semi-final.

Team-mate Andrew Robertson also failed to qualify from his semi-final.

Jamaica’s Asafa Powell won his heat in a time of 6.44 seconds – the fastest time in the world this year and fifth fastest ever – and then clocked the same time to win his semi-final.

The final takes place at 03:40 GMT.

Londoner Dasaolu won the British Indoor 60m title last month, clocking 6.53secs in the final, to make it through to the event in the United States.

He won his heat in 6.59 seconds, while Robertson clocked 6.66 to finish third in his and advance.

In the women’s 60m hurdles, British pair Tiffany Porter and Serita Solomon qualified for the final, which takes place at 03:30 GMT.
