At least one person was injured in an explosion at a science building on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Wednesday night, police said.
An explosion was reported in the basement of the Sciences and Technology Building at around 6 p.m., Hawaii News Now reported. Bystanders came to the victim’s aid and helped her out of the basement and the building and brought her to fire officials.
The victim in the incident is a 29-year-old researcher at the school. EMS officials said she was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition and suffered serious injuries to an arm and possible facial burns, according to Hawaii News Now. The woman’s name hasn’t been released.
The building was evacuated and officials secured the area. Officials are investigating whether a gas leak was the cause of the explosion.
