HOUSTON A large fire was burning on Saturday morning at the 100,000 barrel per day (bpd) Pasadena Refining Systems refinery in Pasadena, Texas, which is owned by Brazil’s Petrobras, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Saturday morning.
A Petrobras spokeswoman in Houston said she had no information about events at the refinery on Saturday morning.
A portion of the Houston Ship Channel was shut due to heavy black smoke from the blaze, the Coast Guard said.
A loud explosion shook houses near the refinery in the Houston suburb of Pasadena just prior to the fire, KTRK-TV reported.
