Derek Hough has won a record six seasons of Dancing with the Stars, most recently winning the Mirrorball trophy with celebrity dancer Bindi Irwin in November. Will he return to the dance floor when Season 22 premieres in March or will he replace his sister, Julianne Hough at the judges’ table?
Julianne recently announced that she will not be returning as a judge, telling People that she has “a lot of exciting stuff” coming up. However, she promised it won’t be the last time fans see her on the show, prompting rumors that she may return as a pro-dancer on an upcoming season of DWTS.
Len Goodman is returning to the show in March after a single season hiatus; he will be joined by returning judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. Is there room at the judges’ table for Derek — and would he accept the gig if it’s offered to him?
E! News caught up with Derek at Vanity Fair and Fiat’s Young Hollywood party earlier this week if he would be transitioning from a Dancing with the Stars competitor to a judge on Season 22.
Hough put an end to the rumors and made it clear that he will not be sitting at the judges’ table — at least on the upcoming season.
“No. No. No.” Huugh told E! “That wouldn’t make any sense for me to be a judge. It’s too soon, you know what I mean?!”
According to ET, Derek is expected to be back on the dance floor next month, but who will he be partnered with? Fans will find out soon — the Season 22 celeb cast and their pro partners will be announced on Good Morning America on March 8.
Dancing with the Stars premieres on Monday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
