Katy Perry took to Instagram to share a cryptic quote on Friday, just two days after singer-songwriter Ryn Weaver accused the ‘Fireworks’ singer of bullying her, leading some fans to draw a connection between the two.
“Chang-An writes, ‘If one befriends another person but lacks the mercy to correct him, one is, in fact, his enemy,’” the quote reads. “The consequences of a grave offense are extremely difficult to erase. The most important thing is to continually strengthen our wish to benefit others. — Nichiren.”
While that quote can be interpreted many ways, Perry added some more specific thoughts in the caption, according to Entertainment Tonight.
“Aka if they ya true homie and they ain’t actin right, smack em wit love or else they gonna get k.o. from the universe n sh-t!” she wrote.
While Weaver is not directly called out in the post, some fans pointed to her since-deleted Twitter rant from earlier in the week, according to US Weekly. Weaver initially took issue with Perry’s endorsement of Hilary Clinton for President but then alleged that Perry had bullied her during a Drake concert.
“Anytime I spoke she started turning her head around pretending she heard something, then said ‘dos [sic] u hear something?’” Weaver explained. “While staring at me..Anytime I spoke.. After we were already friends.. Did this the entire night… Then came w us to drake and stared at me the WHOLE SHOW.”
Weaver continued, saying “Then anytime I caught her eye out of my periphery… She proceeded to alert her entire posse saying ‘that ryn weaver girl is soooo obsessed with me.”
Weaver was naturally attacked by Perry fans after the rant and she responded by saying she used to be a Perry fan too.
“Technically, I’m a Katy cat too. Or was. I was personally victimized by Regina George tho…”
For what it’s worth, other fans thought Perry’s cryptic message could also be addressed at former friend Rihanna. The two A-list singers had a falling out in November 2012 after Rihanna returned to her ex, Chris Brown.
Weaver (and Rihanna) have stayed silent though since Perry’s message was sent out, so for now, Katy Perry’s latest feud remains open to interpretation.
