Saturday TV Guide: Jeff Gordon Hosts FOX Daytona 500 Special

Jeff Gordon

FOX is getting its mileage (no pun intended) out of Jeff Gordon being part of its NASCAR broadcast team. Saturday’s TV highlights are led by Jeff Gordon’s Daytona 500 Kickoff Spectacular, a primetime hour-long show featuring Gordon continuing to hype up the Daytona 500, which takes place tomorrow.

Shot at Daytona Beach’s Halifax River Yacht club, Kickoff Spectacular will feature guest appearances by Sports Illustrated swimsuit models Erin Heatherton and Hannah Ferguson and celebrity chef Tim Love (CNBC’s Restaurant Startup), while FOX reporter Jamie Little will conduct interviews with both celebrities and drivers.

If the Daytona 500 is NASCAR’s version of the Super Bowl, then this is definitely the pre-game show. It airs at 9 p.m. tonight, but the biggest question is whether or not it will feature more drivers playing Mario Kart:

If you’re not into sports, reality shows Cops (Spike, 8 p.m.) and MythBusters (Discovery, 8 p.m.) will air new episodes tonight, plus Discovery will also broadcast the one-hour space special Telescope (9 p.m.)

Telescope is a behind-the-scenes look at the design, building and launch of the James Webb Space Telescope, said to be a hundred times more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope. Below is a preview for the special:

On Lifetime, the network’s next original movie is Pregnant at 17, starring Zoe de Grand’Maison (Orphan Black) and Josie Bissett (Melrose Place) in the story of a young woman who discovers her boyfriend is, in fact, a married man, and turns to his wife to help her with her unexpected pregnancy. That movie airs at 8 p.m.

New episodes of adventure Black Sails (Starz, 9 p.m.) and Beowulf (Esquire, 10 p.m.) round out the evening.
