David Bowie’s Son Not Impressed With Lady Gaga’s Tribute At The Grammys

Lady Gaga

One of the highlights of Sunday night’s Grammy Awards for many music lovers was Lady Gaga‘s performance honoring the late David Bowie, who passed away from cancer in January. Gaga performed a medley of Bowie hits and had the costumes to match.

Reviews of the performance have been mostly glowing, but it turns out that one key person close to the late singer may not have been a fan of Gaga’s tribute.

David Bowie’s son, director Duncan Jones took to Twitter after Gaga left the stage and his tweet was cryptically critical.

Jones tweeted out the textbook definiton of the word “Gaga”, which isn’t exactly complimentary.

“Overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused,” he wrote. “Damn it! What IS that word!?”

While the tweet doesn’t slam Lady Gaga directly, some fans are taking it as a sign that perhaps Jones thought the performance was a little over the top. Lady Gaga performed quite a few different songs from Bowie’s catalog including ‘Space Oddity’, ‘Changes’, ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and ‘Heroes’. While most reviews were complimentary, some Bowie fans have said that they wished Gaga would have toned it down a notch and just focused on a couple of songs instead of jumping all over the place.

While she hasn’t responded to Jones, Gaga can’t be too pleased with his response as she said in the run-up to the show that Bowie was one her idols growing up. She even got a tattoo of the singer before taking the stage Sunday night.

Gaga recently told the Hollywood Reporter: “When I fell in love with David Bowie, when I was living on the Lower East Side, I always felt that his glamour was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls.

“He is a true, true artist and I don’t know if I ever went ‘Oh, I’m going to be that way like this,’ or if I arrived upon it slowly, realizing it was my calling and that’s what drew me to him…”

As for Jones, Bowie’s son is ramping up for a couple big events this summer. Jones is the director of the highly-anticipated ‘Warcraft’ movie which will hit theaters in June. Jones also shared a tweet last week announcing that he and his wife are expecting a baby that same month.

“Due in June. Circle of life. Love you, granddad,” Jones wrote.
