Where is unmarked burial place from 1776 Battle of Brooklyn?

A military author says it’s time to find the unmarked graves of scores of Maryland soldiers who were killed during a Revolutionary War battle fought in New York 240 years ago this summer.

Patrick K. O’Donnell says an effort should be made to locate the burial place so a monument can be erected on the spot in honor of the men who died during the Battle of Brooklyn, also known as the Battle of Long Island.

O’Donnell’s latest book, “Washington’s Immortals,” tells the story of the Maryland soldiers who were some of Gen. George Washington’s most dependable combat soldiers throughout the eight-year war.

At Brooklyn in late August 1776, the Maryland troops were credited with holding off the British long enough for Washington’s army to evacuate to Manhattan and continue fighting.
