During a visit to Jimmy Fallon, Peyton Manning talked about his brother, Eli’s famous Super Bowl face. Last Sunday, Peyton’s Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50, handing the Carolina Panthers only their second lose all season. When Denver’s victory became a sure thing, cameras cut to the box where Manning’s family was watching the game. While most family members were celebrating and excited, Peyton’s brother Eli looked like something horrible had just happened.
Peyton joked that it’s the same express that Eli has had during every big moment of his life. Fallon then presented Peyton with a cardboard cut of out his brother. Peyton and cardboard Eli re-lived some of the most important times in Peyton’s life together, such as the birth of his twins.
TMZ caught up with Eli at the airport and asked him what was up with the sad face. He says he was just focused on the game. He also shared he has no issue with the memes circulating online.
It’s widely expected that Super Bowl 50 was Peyton’s last ride. However, that didn’t stop Magic Johnson from trying to recruit him to the Los Angeles Rams before the Fallon apparence.
“I tried to talk somebody out of retirement and come to the Rams,” Johnson told Fallon, while pointing over his shoulder to Manning. “I said, ‘Man, if you play again, come to the Rams.’ I was working on him backstage. I will even chip in some money.”
“I want to cheer for him if he don’t retire as a Ram,” Johnson later said. “I got my recruiting hat on right now.”
While focus normally goes to the quarterback when NFL teams will or lose, it was actually the Denver defense that won the game. If Johnson should be recruiting anybody, it’s them.
