History’s Vikings has cast MLB All-Star Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays in a guest role for its upcoming fourth season.
The Toronto Blue Jays slugger is a major fan of the series, so much so that he unveiled a Vikings inspired haircut on Twitter in December (pictured above). Now the show is giving some love back, casting Donaldson as – what else? – a tough Viking warrior.
Donaldson will film his role as Hoskuld in Ireland this week; an air date for his episode hasn’t been announced yet.
The third baseman was named to his second All-Star Game this past season. He was also named American League Most Valuable Player, earned a Silver Slugger Award and the Hank Aaron Award, and Sporting News named him their Major League Player of the Year.
This will be the Florida native’s first-ever acting appearance, but if he’s as handy with an axe as he is with a bat, Donaldson should have no problem fitting in amongst the Viking hordes whatsoever.
The fourth season of Vikings premieres on Feb. 18 at 10 PM on History, with 20 new episodes to be aired in a split season over 2016. Check out the latest trailer, featuring Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha, below:
