SyFy has firmed up premiere dates for the return of 12 Monkeys, starring Aaron Stanford and Amanda Schull (above), and the premiere of its latest original series Hunters. Both shows will air on Mondays beginning mid-April, per the network’s announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour today.
12 Monkeys returns Apr. 18 at 9 PM, with an explosive second season of even more time-traveling drama. Season one ended with Cole (Stanford) and Cassandra (Schull) having experienced major life changes, and the duo will continue to fight the Army of the 12 Monkeys in season two.
Also returning are Kirk Acevedo (as Cole’s best friend Ramse), Barbara Sukowa (Dr. Jones), Emily Hampshire (Jennifer Goines) and Todd Stashwick (now a series regular as Deacon). Season two will consist of 13 episodes. Here’s the trailer:
The week prior, on Apr. 11, SyFy will premiere Hunters at 10 PM. Based on the novel Alien Hunter by Whitley Strieber and with former 12 Monkeys producer Natalie Chaidez serving as showrunner, Hunters focuses on FBI agent Flynn Carroll (Nathan Phillips), whose search for his missing wife leads him to a unit that fights alien terrorists.
Britne Oldford (The Divide, American Horror Story) co-stars as Regan, one of the Exo-Terrorism Unit (ETU)’s best operatives. Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) is also a regular as McCarthy, who is described as a “dangerously unhinged terrorist.” The show has a 13-episode order for season one.
The programming choice basically pairs the two shows together this season, except for Hunters premiering a week earlier and 12 Monkeys ending a week later. SyFy is no doubt hoping the devoted audience of the sophomore show will stick around to check out the newer program.
