Mr Bernanke said the recovery could slow if the Fed changed its policies
US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke has told Congress that it is too soon to end the central bank’s monetary stimulus programme or raise interest rates.
He said the Fed’s policies were “providing significant benefits” and changing course now could harm growth.
He warned that a “premature tightening of monetary policy” would risk “slowing or ending the economic recover [...]
The black attack on Obama
When President Obama told a black audience years ago that black men needed to be better fathers the response from Rev. Jesse Jackson was to criticize him for talking down to black people and whisper that he deserved to be castrated.
Now the president has done it again.
Speaking at graduation ceremonies at Morehouse College in Atlanta last weekend the President said it is time to stop using racism and discrimination – though they still exist – to excuse bad personal decisions that block success.
And the critics are back at President Obam [...]

Having Both Migraines, Depression May Mean Smaller Brain
WEDNESDAY, May 22 (HealthDay News) — Migraines and depression can each cause a great deal of suffering, but new research indicates the combination of the two may be linked to something else entirely — a smaller brain.
Already aware that people with migraines face double the risk of depression, scientists wanted to determine if having both conditions together affected total brain volume. The difference in size — about 2 percent — isn’t alarming, study authors said, but needs further research t [...]

Mosquito behavior may be immune response, not parasite manipulation

Malaria-carrying mosquitoes appear to be manipulated by the parasites they carry, but this manipulation may simply be part of the mosquitoes’ immune response, according to Penn State entomologists. “Normally, after a female mosquito ingests a blood meal, she matures her eggs and does not take another one until the meal is digested,” said Lauren J. Cator, postdoctoral fellow in entomology and a member of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics, Penn State. “If infected [...]

Airbnb currently has more than 22,000 listings in New York City
Airbnb has told its members “we are not going anywhere”, after a judge in New York ruled a man who rented out his apartment through the site broke the law.
Nigel Warren was fined $2,400 (£1,600) for subletting his apartment to a Russian tourist in December.
The judge said he broke a law stopping people from subletting for fewer than 30 days.
Airbnb helps its members to rent out their spare rooms or homes.

Stella McCartney Makes Her Mark in Asia
An English pub isn’t the first thing one might expect to see in the middle of a luxury mall in Beijing. But leave it to Stella McCartney to bring a taste of the UK to the Chinese megalopolis. Tuesday night, the designer opened her first Beijing store and invited guests to toast the milestone with pints of Guinness and Pimm’s Cups. Partygoers noshed on chips and tapped their toes to nineties Brit pop while perusing the airy two-story boutique. Fittingly, the eco-conscious McCartney chose a green location for the new space. On May 22, 2011, a tornado all but wiped Joplin off the map. The twister killed 161 people, injured more than 1,000 and wrought almost $3 billion [...]
