Signs may point to a refresh of Apple’s popular MacBook Air. Possibly next month.
Apple Insider said Friday that at large online retailers like MacConnection, stock has vanished for the popular 13.3-inch Air with a 1.8GHz processor and 256GB solid-state drive.
That said, Best Buy has stock, but it’s the “only reseller on AppleInsider’s
Mac Price Guide that is currently advertising available inventory,” according to Apple Insider.

Google Takes Maps to Next Level
Google Maps, already the de facto standard for online and mobile maps, is breaking new ground with added capabilities announced on Wednesday at the Google I/O Conference in San Francisco.
Maps will get 3D views, speech recognition, enhanced voice search capabilities and will leverage artificial intelligence, among other things. Google Maps for mobile is also being enhanced.
The company is also added to Google Now, and it is stepping up its push into the education market.
“Google Maps are now well beyond the competition in the consum [...]
Google Glass and the men’s room urinals
The urinal game
commentary I suppose it was inevitable. The debate about Google Glass has extended into the bathroom. For those who’ve never experienced the joys of a men’s restroom — generally the women of the world — here’s how Glass might change our glorious experience.
Nick Bilton of The New York Times penned a great piece about how “the future came crashing down” on him as he stood at a urinal next to a
Google Glass wearer at the Google I/O conference. I immediately identified, having had a [...]

CHICAGO (Reuters) – Chicago will shut down part of its “L” elevated rail system’s busiest line for five months starting on Sunday, forcing thousands of commuters to seek other routes and creating the biggest such U.S. transit disruption in two decades.
The nation’s second-largest public transit system after New York will rebuild 10 miles of the “Red Line” on the city’s South Side, which passes through some [...]
‘US drone’ kills four in strike on al-Qaida target in Yemen
At least four people were killed and a number of others wounded in a drone strike on a vehicle carrying suspected al-Qaida members in southern Yemen, a local official said on Saturday.
The official said the strike took place at dawn on Saturday on a road to the north of Jaar in Abyan Governorate, near Aden. He did not say who was behind the strike, but previous drone strikes have been carried out by the United States. Washington does not usually comment on drone strikes.
Yemen is home to an al-Qaida wing that has planned to attack interna [...]
Ukraine gay pride marchers ready to defy violence
Efforts are going ahead in Ukraine‘s capital Kiev to stage a gay pride march next week in the face of data showing a sharp rise in the number of homophobic attacks reported in the city.
Organisers were forced to cancel the celebration last year, hours before it was due to start, after police said they could not guarantee the safety of participants in the face of threats from far-right and religious groups.
A report published this weekend by Amnesty International revealed what it called “endemic discrimination” by both th [...]
Legge hired to drive for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports giving Indy 34 driver-car combos
INDIANAPOLIS – There could be bumping at Indianapolis this weekend.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports said Saturday afternoon that it has hired British driver Katherine Legge to drive the No. 81 car.
That gives Indianapolis 500 organizers 34 driver-car combinations — one more than it takes to fill the 33-car starting grid for the May 26 race — and means if there are no crashes at least one driver will be left out of the race.
Legge, who started 30th and finished 22nd last year as a rookie at Indy, has not yet been on the 2.5-mile [...]
Fugitive to police on Facebook: Catch me if you can. They do

Thin is the line between the brave and the foolhardy.
Thinner is the brain that thinks it’s brave to taunt the police on Facebook.
Perhaps it comes from watching too many movies or too few, but those who are wanted by the police sometimes turn to Facebook to offer a “na, na, na-na, na.”
A couple of years ago, a man in Utica, N.Y., allegedly tried to dare the police to catch him, with troubling results (for him).
The world [...]
Western leaders study ‘gamechanging’ report on global drugs trade
European governments and the Obama administration are this weekend studying a “gamechanging” report on global drugs policy that is being seen in some quarters as the beginning of the end for blanket prohibition.
Publication of the Organisation of American States (OAS) review, commissioned at last year’s Cartagena Summit of the Americas attended by Barack Obama, reflects growing dissatisfaction among Latin American countries with the current global policy on illicit drugs. It spells out the effects of the policy on many c [...]
Gus Poyet fuming after excrement found in Crystal Palace dressing room
Brighton have launched an investigation after excrement was found on the floor of the Crystal Palace dressing room before Monday’s Championship play-off second leg at the Amex Stadium.
The incident, an apparent attempt to unsettle the visitors when they arrived at the ground, prompted a furious email to staff from the Brighton manager, Gus Poyet, whose side lost the game 2-0.
Poyet, linked with moves to Fulham and Everton, was suspended by Brighton on Thursday over an unrelated alleged breach of contract, as was his assistant, Mauri [...]
Cheap Magnetic Helmet Detects Some Kinds of Brain Damage
A helmet that sends a magnetic field through the wearer’s head might someday offer a quick way to reveal whether the brain is swelling or bleeding as the result of an injury.
In a prototype of the helmet, a small halo-like coil generates a magnetic field above a person’s head; another coil, just above the ears, detects the magnetic field induced in the volunteer’s brain. Because liquid such as blood affects the magnetic field’s phase, the team behind the device was able to distinguish eight brain-injured patients from 46 healthy volunte [...]
