  • NBC fires Trump, drops pageants over candidate’s insults to Mexicans

NBC cut ties with real estate developer and TV personality Donald Trump and the “Miss USA” and “Miss Universe” pageants on Monday for making comments insulting Mexicans when he began his run for president earlier this month. The pageants, part of a 50/50 joint venture with NBCUniversal for the English-language broadcasts that together have in the past year attracted 13 million viewers, would no longer air on NBC “due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants” the company said in a press release. The decision by Comcast-owned NBC was announced four days after Spanish-language Univision said that it would not air the Miss USA pageant on July 12 and severed ties to the Miss Universe Organization. Trump’s lawyer said the billionaire would sue. Trump, in announcing on June 16 that he was seeking the Republican Party nomination for the November 2016 presidential election, described migrants from Mexico to the United States as …

  • ‘The Apprentice’ looks for a new Donald Trump. Who could it be?

NBC severed ties with presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday, but it wants to keep his reality show “The Celebrity Apprentice” on the air without him. In a statement, the network pointedly kept the door open for a continuation of the popular series. “‘Celebrity Apprentice’ is licensed from Mark Burnett’s United Artists Media Group and that relationship will continue,” NBC said. In other words, the network is saying it doesn’t need Trump, even though he’s very much the face of the show. Back in February NBC ordered a 15th season of the series. It is tentatively scheduled to enter production in the fall. So who might NBC and Burnett’s production company say “you’re hired” to? There’s no shortage of famous millionaires and billionaires for NBC to choose from. Related: NBCUniversal cuts ties with Donald Trump Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, for instance, already co-hosts ABC’s business-oriented reality show “Shark Tank.” NBC could also look to …

  • Fifty Shades of shade: EL James’s Twitter Q&A goes awry

Fifty Shades of Grey author EL James got more than she bargained for during a Twitter QA that quickly descended into chaos as people used the #AskELJames hashtag to bombard the writer – who is now worth a reported $37m – with questions and comments that (perhaps predictably) made fun of her much parodied series. The session, which took place in Twitter’s UK headquarters, began with James fielding questions about the plot of Fifty Shades of Grey, such as what she would have liked to change anything in the Ana and Christian relationship with answers such as: “Yes. I would have liked to split them up for longer at the end of FsoG.” But alongside the serious queries came a deluge of questions that made fun of James’s much-criticised prose style, including jibes such as “Do you get paid per adjective?”, “Have you ever held a dictionary?” and “Did you ever consider using a thesaurus, …

  • Spiky monsters: New species of ‘super-armored’ worm discovered

Related images(click to enlarge) A new species of ‘super-armoured’ worm, a bizarre, spike-covered creature which ate by filtering nutrients out of seawater with its feather-like front legs, has been identified by palaeontologists. The creature, which lived about half a billion years ago, was one of the first animals on Earth to develop armour to protect itself from predators and to use such a specialised mode of feeding. The creature, belonging to a poorly understood group of early animals, is also a prime example of the broad variety of form and function seen in the early evolutionary history of a modern group of animals that, today, are rather homogenous. The results, from researchers at the University of Cambridge and Yunnan University in China, are published today (29 June) in the journal PNAS. The creature has been named Collinsium ciliosum, or Hairy Collins’ Monster, named for the palaeontologist Desmond Collins, who discovered and first illustrated a similar …

  • Selena Gomez Just Can’t Kiss Junk Food Goodbye!

Posted on Mon Jun 29th, 2015 1:00pm PDT       By X17 Staff Some starlets don’t like being photographed eating — but Selena Gomez has no problem posting pictures of herself chowing down! Yesterday the 21-year-old starlet took a selfie while munching on a bag of Cheetos, and today she posted a shot of herself going to town on an ice cream cone. We love a sweet treat every now and then, but hopefully Justin Bieber’s former flame is eating veggies and protein too! After all, when Selena was hospitalized a few years ago, she partly blamed the incident on her unhealthy diet! Back in June of 2011, she told Texas DJ Kidd Kraddick that malnutrition was one of the reasons for her collapse after her appearance on The Tonight Show. “I do eat. The problem is I don’t eat right,” she said. “I love everything that’s possibly not good for me.” Selena added that her mom tries …

  • Tolerance vs. Pride? Spat on by parade-goers, Catholic priest has this message

Editor’s note: The following column originally appeared on ToddStarnes.com. There were g-strings galore at Gay Pride celebrations across the fruited plain as scantily-clad celebrants took to the streets to herald the Supreme Court’s decision to redefine marriage. Click here to join Todd on Facebook for conservative news and commentary.  Supporters of LGBTQI and A marriages waved rainbow-colored flags from San Francisco to New York City. Unfortunately – the festivities in the Big Apple turned ugly. Instead of responding with anger Father Jonathan responded with grace. Father Jonathan Morris – was walking near Broadway — wearing his cleric’s collar – when he stumbled up the Gay Pride Parade. Father Jonathan, who is also a Fox News contributor, tweeted what happened: “Two men walked by and spat on me,” he wrote.  Related Image Expand / Contract They spit on a priest! • Cult of personality: Turkmen leader gets park tribute on birthday

ASHGABAT Turkmenistan, which rights groups view as one of the most repressive countries in the world, celebrated President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov’s 58th birthday on Monday by opening a park in the capital Ashgabat bearing his name. It was the latest tribute to the leader who took over the Central Asian nation after the death of his predecessor in December 2006. Last month, Turkmenistan unveiled a gilded 6-metre-high statue of Berdymukhamedov on horseback perched on a white cliff. A dentist with a passion for horses and fast cars, his rule has been marked by a rising personality cult. Several thousand people chanted “Thank you Arkadag,” the president’s official title which means “The Patron” in Turkmen, as the ribbon was cut to open the park. Berdymukhamedov was not at the ceremony. The park features a large marble arch with a huge portrait of Berdymukhamedov wearing a traditional Turkmen hat and tunic. Controlling the world’s fourth-largest natural gas reserves, …
