NEW YORK (Reuters) – A Delta Air Lines jetliner with 125 passengers and five crew members aboard slid off the runway upon landing during a snowstorm at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Thursday, but officials said there were no serious injuries. Delta flight 1086 was landing at LaGuardia after a morning flight from Atlanta, the airline said. The passengers were evacuated safely from the aircraft on inflatable slides and moved to the airport terminal on buses. Images from local media showed the Delta plane on a snowy runway area with its nose smashed into a fence at the edge of Flushing Bay. A fuel spill was caused by accident but has been contained, local media said. Multiple emergency rescue crews were on the scene and a man and two women, one of them wearing a neck brace, were seen being taken away from the scene in ambulances. • Review of Hillary Clinton emails to take months: U.S. official

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A growing controversy over Democrat Hillary Clinton’s use of personal email for work while she was U.S. secretary of State could drag on for months, threatening to cloud the expected launch of her 2016 presidential campaign. Clinton tried to cool the brewing firestorm over the emails late on Wednesday, saying she wanted the State Department to release them quickly. But a senior State Department official told Reuters on Thursday the task would take time. “The review is likely to take several months given the sheer volume of the document set,” the official said. That will give Clinton’s Republican foes plenty of time to take aim at her with allegations that the use of personal email for official duties while secretary of State from 2009 to 2013 was inappropriate. “I want the public to see my email,” Clinton said in a tweet late on Wednesday. “I asked State to release them. They said …

  • Adidas to close 200 shops in Russia

Adidas is popular in Russia — even the national soccer team wears it. For Adidas, “Impossible is nothing.” Except when it comes to making money in Russia. Adidas (ADDDF) announced it would close 200 shops across Russia due to the poor economic situation in the country. The double whammy of cheap oil and Western sanctions sent Russian economy tanking. The ruble has collapsed — losing 40% against the dollar in just six months. GDP is expected to shrink by 5% this year, inflation is soaring. Adidas runs around 1,000 stores across Russia and the economic misery hit it hard. “Being the clear market leader, we have been particularly impacted by the economic downturn, deteriorating consumer sentiment,” the company’s CEO Herbert Hainer said in a statement. The German sportswear group said its net income for 2014 was around 650 million euros, around a third below the target. Adidas’ shares were up 3.4% Thursday, after it announced …

Englewood, CO (SportsNetwork.com) – The Denver Broncos made it official on Thursday, announcing that quarterback Peyton Manning will be returning to the club for the 2015 season. “We’re glad to work something out with Peyton so that he will be part of our team this season,” said Broncos executive vice president/general manager John Elway. According to reports on Wednesday, Manning will play an 18th NFL season on a reduced salary in 2015, agreeing to a $4 million cut with the Broncos. At a news conference, Mr Nisman’s ex-wife said the findings ruled out the hypotheses of accident or suicide. Mr Nisman was found dead in his home on 18 January, hours before he was due to testify in Congress against President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. • Activating genes on demand

When it comes to gene expression — the process by which our DNA provides the recipe used to direct the synthesis of proteins and other molecules that we need for development and survival — scientists have so far studied one single gene at a time. A new approach developed by Harvard geneticist George Church, Ph.D., can help uncover how tandem gene circuits dictate life processes, such as the healthy development of tissue or the triggering of a particular disease, and can also be used for directing precision stem cell differentiation for regenerative medicine and growing organ transplants. The findings, reported by Church and his team of researchers at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University and Harvard Medical School in Nature Methods, show promise that precision gene therapies could be developed to prevent and treat disease on a highly customizable, personalized level, which is crucial given the fact that diseases develop among …

  • Divorce May Be More Likely When Wives Get Sick

THURSDAY, March 5, 2015 (HealthDay News) — That part of the marriage vows where couples pledge to stay together “in sickness and in health” may be heeded more by wives than husbands, new research suggests. Although divorce rates did not increase when husbands were in poor health, researchers at Iowa State University found the divorce rate was 6 percent higher in marriages in which wives were sick. “There is a difference between feeling too sick to make dinner and needing someone to actually feed you. That’s something that can really change the dynamics within a marriage,” said study author Amelia Karraker in a university news release. She is an assistant professor of human development and family studies at Iowa State. The researchers analyzed two decades of information on 2,700 marriages. At least one of the spouses was at least age 51 when the study began. The researchers looked to see whether cancer, heart disease, lung …

  • Hillary Clinton In Trouble, Again: Are we watching a cheap spy movie or a presidential campaign?

Feb. 24, 2015: Hillary Rodham Clinton jokes with the crowd during a keynote address at the Watermark Silicon Valley Conference for Women, in Santa Clara, Calif. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez) At what point do Democrats give up on Hillary Clinton?   We must be getting close. The most recent revelation – that Hillary used an untraceable personal email account during her tenure as Secretary of State —  should be a tipping point. Details of the under-the-radar communications are just emerging, and sound more like a cheap spy novel than a presidential campaign. ADVERTISEMENT ADVERTISEMENT According the New York Daily News “Mrs. Clinton “had her own computer server and private email that she used for official business while working as secretary of state. The server was registered at the Clinton’s Chappaqua home under an apparent pseudonym, ‘ Eric Hoteman.’” That name is curiously similar to long-time financial adviser Eric Hothem who has been involved with the Clintons for …

  • Leaks from taps cause massive damage to Germany’s spy agency

BERLIN (Reuters) – The German spy agency’s new headquarters was flooded by water after several taps were removed by thieves on its upper floors, police said on Thursday. The nearly-completed 1.3-billion-euro Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) building in the heart of Berlin suffered millions in water damage on several floors of the mostly vacant structure, according to the Berliner Zeitung newspaper. “Several water taps were stolen and that caused extensive damage,” a Berlin police spokesman said. He said police had not ruled out a political motive or a criminal motive, such as revenge for unpaid bills. “We’re investigating in all possible directions,” he said. The headquarters of the BND, Germany’s intelligence agency, was scheduled to move from its Bavarian base in Pullach to Berlin in 2011 but the move has been delayed to 2017. The 260,000-square meter building will house 4,000 staff. (Reporting by Juliana Woitaschek; writing by Erik Kirschbaum; Editing by Toby Chopra)
