Online porn: the facts and the fantasy | Bertie Brandes
Did watching The Truman Show aged eight leave me a paranoid, arrogant, obsessive maniac? Of course it did. For about a week, until A Bug’s Life came out and I decided I wanted to be an ant instead of a reality TV star.
I was reminded of my younger flips last week when a report was published into the effect pornography has on teenagers’ understanding of sex. Do they now consider the relentless, submissive and aggressive nature of pornography normal practice? Pretty worrying if so and the study released by the Children’s C [...]
Police arrest 30 at gay pride rally in Moscow
Russian police arrested at least 30 activists in central Moscow on Saturday at a gay pride rally to mark 20 years since homosexuality was decriminalised.
Police officers pounced on the gay campaigners moments after they unfurled banners and rainbow-coloured flags outside the State Duma, Russia‘s lower house of parliament, on Saturday afternoon. Several protesters were attacked by Orthodox Christian vigilantes. The arrests were made outside the Duma and the Moscow mayor’s office where the rally ended. Activists chose to rally [...]
Dundee ‘require investment soon’
Keyes Capital say the chance to bring Dundee straight back to the Scottish Premier League may be missed if their investment offer is not accepted soon.
The Texan group are hoping to put £1.5m into the Dens Park club, who have been relegated to the First Division.
“Next year is our best to get back up into the SPL,” said Keyes’ John Nelms.
“Year two, I’m assuming that the boys from Glasgow [Rangers] are going to be there and that’s going to make it much more difficult proposition.̶ [...]

One of what’s believed to be only six still-working Apple 1 computers set a record at auction Saturday, selling for $671,400 in Germany.
The machine, built by Steve “The Woz” Wozniak in Steve Jobs’ parents garage back in 1976, was sold along with the original owner’s manual and a signed letter from Jobs to original owner Fred Hatfield.
Breker, the German auction house that handled the sale, sold another Apple 1 in December for $640,000, a substantial jump in price from the Apple-1 sold by S [...]

PITTSBURGH (Reuters) – Fifty years after the Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest of the U.S. Civil War, a survivor of that fight marched 200 miles from Pittsburgh to the site of the battle for a reunion attended by both Union and Confederate veterans.
On Sunday, another veteran, Jim Smith, 70, of Hempfield, Pennsylvania, will start out on the same trek as part of the observation of Memorial Day, when Americans honor their war dead. By a stroke [...]

Austrian overcomes fear of heights to aim for slackline record
Sat May 25, 2013 12:30pm EDT
FRANKFURT, May 25 – An Austrian man tip-toed along a line strung 185 meters (607 feet) off the ground in Frankfurt on Saturday, attempting to set a new world record for “highlining” despite his fear of heights.
Reinhard Kleindl, 32, used only his arms to balance as he walked twice along a 30-metre-long polyester rope anchored to the two wings of Frankfurt’s U-shaped skyscraper Tower 185 above hundreds of cheering supporters.
Kleindl said he was trying to set a new [...]

Swedish riots spark surprise and anger
The pace of the neighbourhood watch suddenly picks up. “Here’s the fire we’ve been waiting for,” grins Samiy, an Iraqi in a bulky jacket.
It’s half past two in the morning and Samiy, along with dozens of others from local Islamic groups and community organisations, has spent the night patrolling the streets of Husby, the suburb at the centre of riots in Stockholm.
Soon there’s an acrid stench of burning plastic, and flickers become visible around the footbridge that the group is now jogging towards. A d [...]
